Dancers of the Book: Yemenite, Persian, and Kurdish Jewish Dance

Despite the cultural significance of dance in Jewish communities around world, research into Middle Eastern outside modern nation-state Israel is sorely under-researched. This article aims to help rectify this by focusing on Yemenite, Persian/Iranian, and Kurdish explores how these dancers have functioned been received within societies they a part of. The methods that gone are combination analyzing primary source recorded dances existing secondary communities. Through methods, reveals Iranian, navigated their lives, identities, careers environments where variously marginalized, whether for ethnic backgrounds places origin, or adoption as profession. Regardless perceptions dancers’ community members may them, demonstrated commendable resilience fostered traditions not only culturally relevant important own communities, but become significant broader situated well.
